Birthday Parties and Christmas

This week we Western Union(ed) some money to Ukraine to make sure that Vitaliy would have a birthday party this year.  This was his VERY first birthday party! As a matter of fact until recently he didn’t even know when his actual birthday was and how old he was.  He thought he was already 10 years old but I found out and told him that he was actually going to be turning 10 on the 15th of December.  With the money we sent our missionary friend she was able to buy not only cake and juice but also fruits and chocolate candies for his entire class!  The missionary reported that he was very excited and that his class was shocked.  She gave him a huge piece of cake with 3 candles.  She asked him about his biggest dream and he replied "I want to be adopted by American family!”  We pray that we can make this happen.  We are thrilled that we were able to do something special for Vitaliy and share that fun with the other orphans waiting for their forever families.
Our home study (to my knowledge) finally went off to Florida after a few snags.  As long as everything goes as planned it should just be a few weeks before it is approved. We were hoping to be able to tell him that we were adopting him by Christmas but now we are just looking forward to when we will be able to let him know, whenever that is.  We know that it will be a wonderful announcement for him no matter the date.
We just sent off two very large boxes to the orphanage for Christmas.  Several people donated toys and gifts to send along.  I know that the kids will be thrilled to have new things to play with.  Thank you to everyone who participated in this.  I imagine that we will get some pictures of the kids with their new things soon.
We haven’t received any new donations to our fund recently and we know that the Christmas season is difficult.  Please remember to pray for us through this.  We are praying that we will have half of the entire cost to adopt by the new year.  That total is about $8,000 more.  We are thrilled to have raised 30% already.  Thank you Lord for your many blessings.

December is moving on

Finally heard from Ukraine this week, our missionary friend sent us some pictures of Vitaliy and his friend Vova.  She had been very busy teaching a girl’s bible study and hadn’t seen him but she dropped off our weekly letters to a social worker for Vitaliy.  Unfortunately, Vitaliy hadn’t received our letters so when she came to visit him she told him who he needed to see to pick up the letters.  We were sad to hear that he missed getting the letters from us for 3 weeks and we are praying that he didn’t feel abandoned by us during that time.  One of the reasons we write to him each week is so that we develop a trust relationship with him.  I try to include a picture with each letter and a bit of a story that continues in the following letter.  Now that he has 4 letters to read at the same time he’ll have lots of reading to do.
We had our computer crash on us on Thanksgiving Day.  All of our adoption papers and letters to and from Vitaliy were saved on that computer.  Fortunately, Brandon was able to recover all the information and has it stored on an external hard-drive.  We are in process of shopping for a new computer but in the mean time some friends of ours have let us borrow their computer so that we are still connected with the outside world.
On Thursday December 15th Vitaliy will turn 10 years old.  We are getting together a box to send to him and the other kids at the orphanage for his birthday and for Christmas.  They celebrate their Christmas on January 6th which is very similar to Italy where they celebrate Epiphany here.  I ask some friends if they had some lightly used toys that they would like to send along and the response was awesome.  Several people wanted to help send along what they had to the kids at the orphanage in Ukraine.
Today is the last day that Heather Pelzcar is so kindly coming over to cut hair to raise money for our adoption.  She has really been a blessing to us over these four weekends and was a picture of service and grace.  We appreciate her so very much.
Thank you for following our blog.

We are Back on Track

This week we got our labs back from Ohio, Hooray!!!  Now we are back on the journey.  We have everything signed and ready to send off to our social worker and she will do a final review and then send it off to Florida for the offical review and then we are then offically prospective adoptive parents.  This process will probably be a few weeks and the holidays will most likely slow it down but God's timing is perfect.
As I write this, our friend Heather is once again pouring out her heart and her labor to cut and style hair for our adoption.  One of the best parts about these days is the conversation about life, adoption, and love.  I have met people through these efforts that I would have not had the opportunity to meet otherwise.  Everyone who comes shares with us the vision to bring an orphan to home to a forever family.  What a blessing that is!
We put up our tree this week and I kept thinking about how next Christmas we will be a family of five.  My heart aches though to know that our soon to be son will spend another Christmas alone in an orphanage along with so many other orphans waiting, hoping, and praying for a family to love them.  Please pray with us that Vitaliy will be encouraged by the letters that we send and the gifts that we are collecting to send to the orphanage for the kids.  We were praying that we could tell him that we were planning on adopting him by his birthday which is December 15th but now we are hoping that we can tell him by the Ukraine Christmas time which is the first week of January.
To our blog readers, we appreciate your prayers and support.

Patience is the word of the week

This week I regret to inform that the homestudy is a stand still. As part of the homestudy, there were medical evaluations required for Brandon and I but due to a contract dispute at a laboratory in Ohio (long story) our homestudy is on hold.  Once the medical evaluations are done it will take about 3 to 4 weeks for the homestudy to be finalized.  At that point we can tell Vitaliy that we are adopting him.  We were hoping that we’d be able to tell him in December but with the holidays we are doubting that this will happen.  We are not discouraged for we understand that God’s timing is perfect and his plans are straight.  We are just having our first setback of what we were hoping would be the plan.
Now for the good news and there is always good news when you are a child of God!  Last week our dear friend Heather Pelczar once again stayed at our house all day on her feet cutting hair for our adoption fund.  We raised $458!  Along with some other generous donations we have now raised 30% of our total costs.  We are so thankful for the blessings of others as they pour out their love for us.
We haven’t heard anything from him in awhile but we are praying he is well.  We still write to him each week and pray that this gives him hope for a future.  As you pray please join us with a few specific prayer requests:
1.        That Vitaliy’s heart is being prepared for a forever family and that our hearts are prepared to bring  him into our lives.
2.       That God will provide for 50% of the total costs of the adoption to be donated by 2012.  To achieve this we would need an additional $8,000 by the New Year.
3.       That the missionary Natalya who translates and delivers our letters to Vitaliy would be strengthed and encouraged to continue her much valued service for the Lord.
4.       For us to have clear wisdom on when we should visit Ukraine to meet Vitaliy for the first time face to face.
Thank you for taking the time to read, pray, and journey with us.  We feel your prayers, love, and support.

I am thankful

November is the month that reminds us to be thankful.  We start our American holidays in November with Veteran’s Day and are humbled and thankful for the sacrifices normal everyday individuals took and made extraordinary sacrifices.  I think of my grandfather serving in the Pacific during WWII and my father serving during the deadliest years in Vietnam and then to all my peers and friends who continually put their lives on the lines for others.  I think about the families like mine who have had to endure long separations from loved ones due to deployments and being stationed around the world.  When I reflect on these things, I am thankful.
Then we have Thanksgiving, a holiday that calls on everyone to look at their many blessings and then share those joys with others.  In the midst of turkey and stuffing there should be an intentional desire to give what you have to others including your time and smiles.  I have noticed on many FB pages that people are listing something they are thankful for everyday leading up to Thanksgiving.  It is difficult to grumble with God about what you lack when you meditate on the things he has blessed your life with, including the breath in your lungs this morning.  I am thankful.
This week we have blessings to share with you all.
First of all, our dear friend Heather Pelczar is sharing four Saturdays with us in our home cutting hair to raise money for our adoption.  The first day we raised $225.  She is coming back this weekend and then twice in December and all of this during her preparation time for her family to move back to the states.  I am thankful.
We have a dear brother from Afghanistan who was orphaned at the age of 12 when the Taliban killed his entire family.  He was recently adopted by our Lord Jesus and baptized.  He feels a burden in his heart for orphans and donated some of his wages to our fund.  I am thankful.
We have a sweet friend, Justine Erwin, who makes beautiful jewelry and has offered to give all profits on her sale of bracelets during the month of November towards our adoption fund.  She is getting ready to move back to the states too so this is a sacrifice of her time and shows the beautiful condition of her heart.  If you like to see her jewelry check-out her web-site http://www.etsy.com/shop/babycady?section_id=8032714.  I am thankful.
Psalm 33:11 states, "The Lord's plans stand firm forever; His intentions can never be shaken."
Psalm 18:30 states, "As for God, His way is perfect. All the Lord's promises prove true."
Thank you for your prayers and encouragement as we seek to adopt Vitaliy.

Why are we doing this?

As we travel down this road to adoption we have been faced with many personal questions from well meaning friends and family.  We try our best to find out the truth in everyone’s statements and use those comments and present them to the Lord to see what we can take with us and what is better left ignored.
This past week we had a particularly tough week with people pointing out the most negative aspects of our decision to adopt.  Many people think that we are just plain crazy.  Why would a nice, normal family purposely choose to bring pain, suffering, anger, and danger into their home?  What would possess a family who is comfy and cozy to bring in a child that has major issues, doesn’t speak English, and has had a life where adults tend to be people he can’t trust.   These are all valid questions and we have been talking and praying about them a lot.  This is what we have come up with as a answer.
As disciples of Christ we have a very different reality of this temporary world.  Christ came into this world and was faced with seemingly insurmountable pain and discomfort yet he came anyway.  He came and purposely subjected his self to suffering in order to show his amazing love and grace towards humanity.  He did things that made others look and think of him as foolish and even insane.  Despite what others thought of him as being weak and crazy he shocked the world when after he willingly laid his life down for all of us, he rose again on the third day to prove to the world that He came to conquer sin and death.  That is the truth of the gospel (good news).
We understand that God never promised us comfort.  The Bible doesn’t include a verse that says, “And the children of God shall find comfort in all they do.”  But there are a lot of verses that talk about the opposite of comfort, and that is suffering.
For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for him.  Philippians 1:29
To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.  1 Peter 2:21
For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.  2 Corinthians 4:17
Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin.  1 Peter 4:1
We are aware that we cannot fix Vitaliy.  We can’t heal his broken places, we can’t make him love us or accept us as his forever family.  We can love him, guide him, show him, teach him, protect him, and sacrifice for him but only God can heal him.  We are trying to be realistic in our expectations and lay down our starry-eyed enthusiasm that Vitaliy will make our home a wonderful place.  We know that this road is very costly financially and will be emotionally trying but we are choosing to be uncomfortable momentarily on this earth to follow God’s heart, “Whoever receives a child in My name, receives Me.”   Matthew 18:5
We appreciate you support, encouragement, and prayers as we follow God’s leading to bring Vitaliy home.

Rounding the first turn

I feel like we are heading into the first major turn in our journey this week.   On Saturday November 5th a social worker is coming in from the United Kingdom to do our home study.  As soon as this is complete and she finishes her report we can officially let Vitalik know that we are adopting him.  I have asked the missionary there if we can tell him in a video instead of a letter and she said, “Definitely!”  She has agreed to video tape him watching our video to see his reaction to the news.  So excited for that moment!   In a letter we received from him this week he expressed that it would be good for him to be with us.  We totally agree with that statement.  He wrote to us on his own without the prompting of the missionary and we are thrilled that he has hope and knows that someone cares for him.  We were told that when he gets a letter from us, all the other children gather around to read it as well.  They are so excited to know that someone is interested in any of them.  I pray that this also gives the other orphans hope that they too will be rescued someday.
These are the statistics compiled by UNICEF regarding orphans in Ukraine.
70% of boys will be imprisoned, 60% of girls will become prostitutes, 10% of the children will commit suicide.  These statistics are real, but they only tell part of the story.  These are real children, not just numbers.  These are living, breathing children in need of a family.  If you are interested in older child adoption and feel a burden to save a child from these horrific statistics there are many children waiting.  From the hosting program that Vitaliy was part of, there are still 6 children waiting.
 Praises this week:
We have raised 25%of our total adoption funds!
Our Italian Cooking Class raised $1,125.00 on Saturday, October 29th.
Brandon and I finished our home study preparation!  Now we just have to clean the house.  J
We are taking some much needed family time this week and it’s only Tuesday and we are all feeling more refreshed.
Prayer requests for this week:
We are still waiting for one more document to arrive from Florida before Saturday.  Pray for it to arrive.
That our home study on Saturday goes smoothly, that we are all healthy and well, including the social worker and her travel to and from here will be safe and uncomplicated.
That as we continue our family refreshing time that we are sensitive to each other’s feelings and we just have time well spent loving and laughing.
That our hearts and minds will continue to be prepped for Vitaliy coming home and that his heart and mind will be prepped for us.

Things are coming together

I will start with the praises today because there are many.  First of all, we have received our certified copies of our marriage license from South Korea!  This was a BIG document that we were waiting on for our home study.  We are only waiting on one more document to come from Florida and our documents for this step will be complete.
Another fun praise is that we have gotten our first bag of clothes from friends for Vitaliy when he arrives.  It was so much fun to receive these boy clothes.  It reminded me of when I first received baby clothes for the girls when I was expecting them.  It makes it seem so much more real and tangible!
We have many fund-raisers going on right now.  We have a hair-stylist coming in the months of November and December to our house to cut hair with all proceeds going to the adoption fund. We have our Italian friend offering a cooking class coming up this weekend to all who want to learn authentic Italian cooking and support our cause.  If you’re not local you can participate in another fund-raiser that my friend is having who makes and sells beautiful jewelry.  She is offering starting now through the end of December all bracelet sales to go towards our adoption.  Check out her web-site.  If you purchase a bracelet remember to write a note saying that it is going towards the Thompson’s Adoption. She can do custom bracelets too.  http://www.etsy.com/shop/babycady  If you are able, purchase a matching set of earrings or necklace to show your support for her generosity.
Today I sent off our 5th letter to Vitaliy.  The missionary there said when she went to the orphanage last week he ran up to her and was “Sure” that she had a letter from us!  I love that!  This means that we are giving him hope and that he is starting to trust us to write to him every week.
Things to pray for:
1.        That we get our home study preparation completed NLT than Sunday October 30th.
2.       That our home-study is smooth and worry-free on November 5th.
3.       That the fund-raisers going on now and through December are successful and raise $10,000.  That would bring us to 50% of the total cost.
4.       That our hearts and minds would be prepared to parent Vitaliy and that his heart would be prepared for our family.
Thank you for your continued prayer support as we make this journey.

Amazed and Thankfull

Still amazed at the things that people are doing to help us with our adoption, God is great! So far we have raised about 22% of the total cost to get Vitaliy home with us. We are humbled by the generosity of those who have even more meager incomes than we do but have followed God’s challenge and have donated abundantly to us. This is challenging to our hearts as we watch God do his work on others to help save one little boy. If he cares so much for him, how much does he care for us all? We still need about $30,000 but my heart is bursting with faith because of what he has already done.
Events coming up to raise finances are: A local friend is going to come to our home and spend four of her Saturday’s cutting hair to and give all proceeds towards the adoption costs. An Italian friend has offered to host Italian cooking classes in her home and donate all proceeds towards our adoption costs. Another friend has offered her photography services to take pictures and donate all proceeds towards our adoption. This is so shocking to us. We never thought so many people would want to help by giving financially but also giving of their time and talents too. We are so incredibly thankful for everything everyone is doing! Truly we are.
We are preparing for our home-study that is scheduled to happen November 5th. There is much to prepare. Brandon and I have to write our entire life stories and that is challenging to say the least. We are taking our on-line parenting courses to prepare us to adopt an older-international child. I am learning so much through these on-line classes and they are helping us have more realistic expectations of what may happen when we get Vitaliy home. I know that when we were preparing for the birth of Grace we had grand expectations for what having a newborn was going to look like only to be quite surprised by the actual reality of the situation. Therefore we are thankful for sound advice by experts to what we may go through once we get Vitaliy home. Also in preparation for Vitaliy we have some friends that are “trying” to teach us Russian. Russian is very challenging with many sounds that the English language doesn’t have but we have hopes that this may help Vitaliy see that we care enough about him to learn some basics of his native language.
Things we need prayer for: #1 That God will continue to press on hearts to help us financially pave the way for the adoption costs. #2 That the paperwork already in progress is sufficient and adequate for the Ukrainian Government. #3 That our home-study prep is done by October 28th so that we can have a week of rest prior to the actual home-study. #4 That God is continually in control of all aspects of this adoption and that he will continue to prepare Vitaliy’s heart for us and our hearts for Vitaliy.

Thank you for being a part of this journey with us.

Battle is Over and Blessings are Continuing

We finished the Battle of the Mustache and Brandon won.  He finally shaved his mustache after 15+ years.  The battle raised $1,208!  Amazing!
This week we mailed off our first big check for the adoption process written for $4,900.  We were praying for God to show us his Majesty in providing for this need.  Grace, my 13 year old daughter, and I prayed specifically that we would have $4,900 by Monday so that we could pay the obligation.  Tuesday morning when we woke up and checked our pay-pal, someone had donated $5,000 into our account!  This was so wonderful for Grace to see that God is faithful and He answers prayers even if we don't see a way for them to possibly be answered. For me, however, it spoke something more precious.  To me this was God's confirmation that He is in this and it is His will.  It showed me that even though we don't know how or where the finances are going to come from in order to complete the process, God is ABLE to do ALL things!  He knows what we need even before we say it; he just wants us to ask.  We are trying to be very specific in our prayer requests throughout this process.  Please look at our first post "We are Announcing our Plan to Adopt" to see what things we are specifically praying for and we ask that you join us in sending these prayers to Him who is abundantly able to do more than we can ask or think.

We have a dear friend who has offered to cut hair and all the money given will go towards our adoption.  If you are local I will be sending out the details on this soon. We have other ideas swirling around in our heads but we'd love to hear the opinions of you all or offers of service to help us.  We are limited on what we can legally do while here in Italy but we love creative ideas.  Feel free to share.
We haven't yet heard back from Vitaliy since we have sent our letter but we are not discouraged because we have received some recent pictures of him and he looks healthy and well.  Our plan is to continue to send him a letter once a week.  Please keep this in your prayers as well that this will encourage him and give him hope.
Finally, we have some friends near us that speak Russian and they have volunteered to try and teach our family some of the language basics.  Although it will be of top importance that Vitaliy learns English, it would be beneficial for all of us if we can at least communicate on a basic level.  These friends of ours have also agreed to be our translators in the beginning stages to communicate the difficult things.  Pray that our family is able to grasp this language quickly.  Italian has been a challenge for us but we feel that we have been able to learn enough to be understood in most cases.

    Grazie Mille!

Piles of Paperwork and Prayers

Today my brain is tired.  We are working on getting the paperwork process rolling.  I have several letters to be mailed around the world for our adoption to move forward.  One envelop is ready for its trip to Florida to do criminal background checks on Brandon and I. Another is ready to go to California to confirm our commitment with our agency to work with them to adopt Vitali. A third is set for the Republic of Korea to prayerfully acquire two certified copies of our marriage certificate.   The most precious paper is an electronic one on its way to Vitali.  We have been given a most awesome gift to be able to correspond with Vitali in a pen-pal type relationship.  I have never been so nervous about writing a letter.  What do you say to a child that you pray about everyday and dream of being your son? Of course we aren't allowed to discuss any possibility of adopting him in case something should fall through and make it impossible, but besides that scenario we have faith that he will be our son soon.  I know he is a 9 year old boy so I am not anticipating a long drawn out response but our prayers are that through our weekly letters that this will give him hope that there is someone out there that knows he exists, people that seem to care about him, and a family that has made him part of their lives.  Please pray with us that Vitali doesn't lose hope of being rescued.
We heard an interview with Vitali and one question the interviewer asked was, "if you had a million dollars what would you buy?"  His first response was simply, "Food".  Food....what 9 year old boy says that if he had a million dollars he would buy food?  That absolutely broke my heart.  Another question was, "what was the best part about your experience coming to America."  His answer was, "I got to feel like I had parents."  We don't want him to just get to experience the feeling of a temporary family but we want to embrace him into our family Forever.

Thoughts for Today

As the Battle for the Mustache rages on, I have some thoughts.
First of all, a wonderful friend has helped me figure out how to add the Pay-Pal donate button at the top left of this blog.  This should help those of you who wish to donate, to do so.  Also you can use this donate button to place your vote for the Mustache battle just let us know how you are voting either for or against the mustache.
Second thought, if you want to subscribe to our Vitali's Forever Family Blog the link to subscribe is located at the bottom left side of the blog
Third thought, our friends Jerry and Shelly Dowling have joined in our Battle and are putting up Jerry's mustache to the same vote.  Thank you guys for joining in our journey to bring Vitali home.
Final thought, our adoption agency has told us that we can pen-pal with Vitali!  We are not going to let him know that we are adopting him until our home study is finalized  but we can start sending him letters and pictures and being his friend.  Please keep this in your prayers as we want so much for him to have hope that someone out there cares about him and we pray that this paves the way for him to feel connected with us.  We have a date set for our homestudy and we are feverishly working to get documents together.  Your love, prayers, and support mean so much to our family.  Thank you for making us part of your lives.

The battle for the Mustache

I have my first idea for a fund-raiser for our adoption...my dearest husband has been hinting that he would like to shave his mustache. I, however, am opposed to this idea. During our first year of marriage he shaved it and I didn't like it at all. He has had it for 15+ years and I would like it to stay. What do you say? $1 a vote for let it stay or shave it off. Voting begins now and ends Saturday October 1st.      To vote you can go to our facebook pages Kimberly Morrison Thompson or Brandon Thompson and there is a Battle of the Mustache link to vote via Pay-pal.  If you don't want to pay via pay-pal you can send us an e-mail at graceinfl@hotmail.com and we can give you our mailing address.  The Pay-pal option only lets you vote one way to let the mustache stay so if you want to vote to shave it off, please comment to this post or send us an e-mail.  Thank you for your support!

We are announcing our plan to adopt

Psalm 82:3  Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute.

This blog is designed to ask you to journey with us on our quest to adopt our son.  The young man whose picture you see is 9 year old Vitali who lives in an Ukrainian orphanage.  It is our hearts desire to make him a part of our family.  Vitali was a part of a hosting program that gave him the opportunity with the organization Redline United to come to the US for 3 weeks in hopes that an American family would hear about him and would choose to make him part of their forever family.  Brandon and I have heard his cry and we are responding with a burning desire to bring him into our family Forever!

Some of you may have known about our desire to adopt and our initial plan to adopt from the American foster system.  We made several calls and sent plenty of e-mails and no one replied.  After 3 weeks we were feeling very discouraged.  Then we received an e-mail from a friend about a group of kids from Redline's hosting program that didn't have anyone looking to adopt them.  Vitali was one of the kids from that e-mail.  Out of curiosity I e-mailed back how to get more information about these kids.  Within 3 hours I got a phone call from the lady in charge of the hosting program she said she was passing on my information to the agency that works with getting these kids adopted.  I expected several days to pass but 1 hour after I hung up the phone I got the call from the agency!  Brandon and I took that as a clear open door from the Lord.

Adopting from the Ukraine is very expensive so this blog will also serve as a progress to see how the Lord will move in providing the funds to bring our son home.  We have some creative ideas for getting the funds we need and I will post them soon, very soon because some expenses are due now.  If all the paperwork and funds are acquired in a timely manner we could possibly have Vitali in our home as early as March!

Please join with us in prayer and support on redeeming this boy who has no future where his is.  We have some specific prayer request that you can present to the Lord with us.

1.  We are asking for wisdom.  To understand the legal process that must take place

2. We are asking for a softening of hearts, our own hearts, Grace and Hanna's and for Vitali too.  This is going to be a big transition and we are asking for Jesus to prepare our hearts for the changes and challenges ahead.  We, of course, are asking for the Holy Spirit to reveal himself to Vitali so that he comes to know Jesus as his Lord and Savior.

3.  We are asking for protection of Vitali's heart, mind, and body.  He has been in the orphanage for 3 years and as of yet he hasn't lost his hope for a forever family. We are praying that the Holy Spirit will increase his hope as our adoption of him draws nearer.  He is one of the younger and smaller boys in the orphanage and is at the mercy of the older boys who have lost hope and have hardened hearts. We are asking that the Holy Spirit be his comforter and protector until we can save him from that place.  The orphanage is nice and the workers are nice but they can never take the place of a family.  He needs a forever family.

4.  There are mounds of documents and paperwork that needs to be done perfectly in order to move from one step to the next.  We are dealing with 4 countries.  U.S, Italy, Ukraine, and South Korea (we need a certified copy of our marriage license).  There is red tape and ignored in-boxes everywhere on this journey but we know that the Lord is more than able to make our paths straight.  Please pray for the paperwork process.  This is definitely a deal breaker if an issue comes up.

5.  And finally, we are asking for creative miracles so that the finances will be available for each step along the way.  If we break down it down into 8 steps, each step costs about $5,000.  We know that the Lord is able to do exceedingly more than we can ask or think.  If you have a fund-raising idea we would LOVE to hear it.

Our dearest friends and family please join with us in bringing our son home.  You will take part in an incredible miracle of God's saving grace.
